A new species of Trileptium (Nematoda: Thoracostomopsidae) from Bahia, Brazil Rev. Bras. Zool.
Vilas-Boas,Ana C.; Silva,Maria C. da; Alves,Orane F. de Souza; Castro,Francisco J.V. de; P. Pinheiro-Junior,Eraldo.
ABSTRACT A new species of a free-living marine nematode found in Brazil is described: Trileptium ribeirensis sp. nov. The type material is deposited in the Nematoda collection of the Museu de História Natural da Bahia, located at the Universidade Federal da Bahia. Trileptium includes eleven valid species of nematodes that have teeth and jaws positioned forward. The species was collected with the help of corers (3.5 cm in diameter and 30 cm long) on a sandy beach in Bahia. This species is distinguished from its congeners based on a combination of characters of the male (cuticle, buccal cavity, supplement and gubernaculum). An updated taxonomic key to the genus is presented.

Echinodermata das praias de Salvador (Bahia, Brasil) Zoologia
Alves,Orane Falcão de Souza; Cerqueira,Walter Ramos Pinto.
This paper presents 28 species of Echinoderms collected on 5 beaches of Salvador (12º54' to 13º01' S and 38º26' to 38º33' W), Brazil, which are distributed in 19 families. Ophiuroidea represented 53,6% of the collected species, followed by Echinoidea (28,6%), Asteroidea (7,1%), Holothuroidea (7,1%), and Crinoidea (3,6%). Ophiuroidea and Echinoidea were the most frequent groups, occurring at all the studied beaches while Crinoidea occurred only on 20% of them. Most of the species are characterized as belonging to the tropical warm waters, some to the shallow coastal areas and some having a broad bathymetric distribution. The richness of species values on beaches ranged from 7 to 24, at Itapua Beach, and from 2 to 14 among different kinds of habitats, where...

Reef fishes captured by recreational spearfishing on reefs of Bahia State, northeast Brazil Biota Neotropica
Nunes,José de Anchieta Cintra da Costa; Medeiros,Diego Valverde; Reis-Filho,José Amorim; Sampaio,Cláudio Luis Santos; Barros,Francisco.
Although recreational spearfishing is a growing activity, its impacts are poorly understood. This paper aims to present data on reef fishes captured by recreational spearfishing in the Bahia State, Northeastern Brazil. We analyzed 168 photos of spearfishing conducted in the reefs of this region between 2006 and 2008. A total of 1.121 fish belonging to 48 species were captured in three sub-regions of the Bahia coastline: Litoral Norte (LN), Salvador (SSA) and Baixo Sul (BS). The main species caught were: Scomberomorus brasiliensis (n = 191), Sphyraena barracuda (n = 153), Lutjanus jocu (n = 150) and Caranx bartholomaei (n = 141); these four species represented 56.5% of total captures. Over the sampling period, the highest values of catch rates per day were...
